Gaining Support Through a Teenage Unplanned Pregnancy

September 19, 2008

An unplanned pregnancy may be shocking at first and cause you great anxiety. It is very common for you to have a variety of emotional reactions to your unplanned pregnancy. Coping with your emotions is an important aspect of making a decision about your pregnancy. Try to find a supportive friend to talk to during this time. Ultimately, you will have to make a decision about your pregnancy that you will have to live with.

Although you may be scared, seeking out a counselor or religious clergy may help you talk out your feelings. A counselor can provide non-judgmental support and information about your options. Reading pregnancy books can also help you know what to expect as your body changes during this period. Although nine months is a very small fraction of your life, this time will be life changing, and a baby can provide happiness for many involved. If your parents or significant other is not supportive, there are many around you that can provide the help you need at this time. Family and friends may also be going through shock and just need some time to cope with the situation before giving you assistance.

If you feel unable to raise a child for personal or financial reasons, adoption may be the best choice for your situation. Adoption creates a win-win-win situation for everyone involved. You have a life after adoption, and you can provide waiting parents the love of a baby, the gift of life. Adoption agencies can be extremely supportive and helpful in your decision making.

When considering adoption, you will need to contact agencies working in your area to find out about the adoption process. Many adoption centers offer a wide range of help for the birth mother. Waiting families often pay for a large amount of expenses surrounding your pregnancy, even including your housing and medical expenses. Many centers offer counseling, legal advice, financial support, medical care, and general support while you are contemplating your decision. If you chose to make an adoption plan you have the freedom to choose the future parents, as well as the terms surrounding it.
